OKTOBERFEST

The world’s largest beer festival is currently taking place in the centre of Munich, Germany. This incredible celebration of all things Bavarian is world-famous, but how much do you actually know about the festival?

WHAT IS OKTOBERFEST?

The first Oktoberfest was held to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, and was originally a horse race with no particular focus on beer.

The Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 16 to 18 day folk festival running from mid- or late September to the first Sunday in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.
